Important please read regarding rescues

Please people do a LOT of checking when getting rescue help. A Real rescue does not post on classified ad sites. the have their available pets on Petfinder trying to get homes but NO real rescue needs to ask for More pets. They are already well known and get too many as it is.
Most are overwhelmed by just reputation and working with their Vet and their Shelter and other rescues in their area.
If they state they have a vet get the name address and number of the office if they claim they will have them email you it is a lie.
Also if they claim they work with other groups or places do a google search and check with those groups yourself to see if they work with them if the group says they do not know them or does not work with them than you need to move pon and find a REAL group.

We have a fake bird rescue in Maryland and they post on this Site as well as Craigslist And several classified places He works with NO other REAL and Reputable groups. He is actually on a Do NOT Adopt list for several REAL rescues and the Shelter in Baltimore City and County.

This person has a criminal background that well is a bit worrisome in itself and if i was a parent i would be worried that someone with his record had the information that he gets from his "application" Notice the site that he has up also shows NO pets for adoption yet has this application asking how many kids what ages and while this is common on rescue applications it is scary when someone is a registered child Sex offender and wants that info

When asked about this we were given lies and then the guy tried just changing his name to another name.
However with some checking we have proof it is the same person.

There are several of us who have been in touch one has visited the home and it is Far from a rescue.

We have attempted emailing Maryland Pet and none of the links work so i HOPE that those looking for bird assistance will go to a REPUTABLE group

we have 3 or 4 All are posted on Pet finder
At least you know they are real with them as they demand paper work

This fake rescue is claiming to work with other rescues when contacted these places state this is NOT true. they said they work with Petco and Pet Smart Yet both of those places do Not work with rescues unless they are 5013C and this guy is Not registeredPlease feel free to PM me I will gladly pass on the rest of the info and proof can be shared

Forum: Maryland Area Birds

<! -->
I just wanted to start a topic about training Tips. I think training your dog is one of the best things you can do for your pet, even if its just a few simple tricks. Dogs need that interaction, they need the exercise and they need to use their brains to stay alert. I don't think that people realize that there are lots of reasons for taking the time to train your dog, its more than just having a dog that knows cool tricks! spending a few minutes a day working with your dog helps to keep them physically and mentally healthy and can improve behavior. I know its sometimes hard to find the time but it my opinion that if your going to own a pet you need to be willing to make time! I thought it would be cool if under this topic post everyone gave tips for training and spending time with there dogs! Link us to you fav. sites or just write what works for you!

Here are some fun tips to help you start training. There from a popular behaviorist named Dr Yin (shes awesome!) Dog Tricks

Forum: Pet Training & Behavior

Don't want to board my cats or get a sitter - but I MUST - sharing what I found

I have 2 cats, both shelter rescues, that I take care of like they are my babies. I found myself in a situation where I had to go to Washington State for a funeral and this and events associated with this would be 9 days. I went into panic mode because my youngest cat was diagnosed with diabetes a few months prior and requires insulin injections daily. I was trapped into finding one of those services that come to the home and charge for every cat, plus administering medication ... I just don't feel comfortable handing over my key to a complete stranger and having to rely they are going to treat my cats just like I do. I called some vets and they ALL had dog boarding in the same area and only offered a small cage. I didn't want my cats stuck in a cage for 9 days traumatized by barking dogs all day.

I was sitting in the waiting room at my vet and a man mentioned to me a company he uses for cat boarding and gave it rave reviews. I checked out the site of this place (which ONLY boards cats) and then went to tour it. I was so surprised this place even existed - I would have never known about it if not for the vet waiting room. So I putting up this post for anyone else that thinks as their cats as their babies - this is a SAFE place to take your cats to when you go out of town. They also charged me NO extra fees to give me one cat insulin shots 2x day. They don't have little cages - rather units of various sizes for single and multiple cats. The tour totally sold me, especially when I saw the playroom and the suites! I was concerned about cost even though it was covered as an expense for the funeral - but I was again surprised that it was right in line with all these other places I was calling - both boarding shelters and sitters. I used them again a few weeks later for Labor Day Weekend, but barely got in because there was a waiting list.

I've finally found a safe, trustworthy, clean, affordable solution that gives me great peace of mind about leaving my cats when I go on business or personal trips. The place is called Warm & Fuzzy Kitty cat boarding. Everyone who works there is so amazing and I know when I leave my cat there my cat is going to be treated perfectly. They are in Silver Spring and it's the entire bottom story of a large mansion-type house. The owner lives there (that made me feel better, too!) the site is warmandfuzzykitty.com I believe, but you can also Google Warm and Fuzzy Kitty and the site pops up.

With so many places you need to be warned about when it comes to animals, I thought it would be good to post some positive information for once!

Forum: Pets & Animals in Need of Good Homes

Losing a tail

I've kept reptiles for a long time, but I've never had a reptile lose its tail out of fear. How fast and/or does it grow back healthy? Anyone have personal experience? I know that with some, if you pull on it, it falls off as a sort of mechanism.

Forum: Maryland Area Herp

HELP! Temporary Housing for Pet Question

Hi,
This is my first post here, I came here because I cannot find any info on the net and was hoping someone here might have some ideas.

I have been laid off for a few months now and need to vacate my home because with my unemployment I cannot afford the $1400 per month rent. I have a 10 y.o. Pom who is a sweetie pie and I just can't get rid of him. The thought of that just tears my heart out.

Our problem is only temporary until my bff returns from Iraq in October which is when we will all get a place together. I have been looking for affordable temporary housing for both my dog and myself, however I have not been able to find anything and only have a few weeks before I need to move out. Does anyone know of any programs or places in the area that offer help to pets in crisis? I cannot afford the rates at a boarding facility and even if I could I am not sure he could handle being caged for long periods of time especially for 3 months.

Any advice, suggestions or encouragement would be greatly appreciated, I am at my wits end.

Thank you.
SM

Forum: Pets & Animals in Need of Good Homes

My favourite Animal Welfare related Book

Hi, I'm very much into working with animals, mostly rescue work involving cats. Any book lovers on this forum?

I was really "blown away" by a book I've read. It's the story of an animal welfare activist and the ups and downs of his life as a campaigner for the protection of hares and rabbits. (Hares are better known in North America as Jack Rabbits.)

Bad Hare Days (Olympia Publishers) by John Fitzgerald is the most enthralling book on the subject of animal welfare activism I've read in a while.

He goes into the effects on himself and his family, and other campaigners, of their efforts on behalf of their furry friends...the most inoffensive creatures in the Irish countryside and yet the most abused in the "sport" of hare coursing, in which Ireland's greyhound owners used live hares as bait in extremely cruel public racing competitions known as "coursing matches".

But the story isn't depressing. It tells of successes as well as failures in the campaign...and how campaigners living in districts where hare coursing was well supported coped with bullying of the worst kind...and the frustrations of dealing with political "red tape" and obstruction (many high powered Irish politicians are keen backers of hare coursing).

The book is full of humour and made me laugh out loud at times...I know that sounds daft, given the nature of the subject, but the writing style is geared towards making the reading experience a rollercoaster of emotion and interaction. It's very well written.

I really recommend the book to anyone who has ever known the challenge of taking up a difficult animal welfare assignment!

Forum: Animal Welfare
